Light is origin, orientation, and an impulse for healing all at once – only in darkness and shadow does its power truly become visible.

The transparent hemisphere of SHADOW\LIGHT, covered with a translucent fabric, becomes a sensory experience of one’s own process of transformation. The wave-like structure of the material and the transparent weft threads respond sensitively to light, creating a moiré effect that – depending on the viewer’s perspective – continuously shifts, flickers, condenses, and dissolves again. Nothing about it is rigid. As in personal growth, progress does not unfold in a straight line but in layers and displacements: patterns emerge, break apart, and reconnect in new ways.

A Play of Light and Shadow

The hemisphere rests on four columns whose mirrored tops reflect the incoming light and redirect it into new trajectories. This reflection creates a constructive counterbalance to the softly moving waves of the surface: stability that does not appear as rigidity, but as a supporting structure that allows transformation. The four columns may stand for those inner forces that enable personal development – courage, patience, trust, and self-care. What matters is that the columns do not remain invisible, but are visibly part of the system.

The interplay of light and shadow points to the ambivalences that shape personal processes: light makes things visible, reveals contours, and provides orientation; shadow protects, preserves depth, and negotiates uncertainty. Only in the superimposition of light and shadow does shadow gain its fascination through playful interaction. As soon as additional light sources – flashlights or small spotlights – cast their beams onto the object from different angles, SHADOW\LIGHT acquires a dynamic of its own, captivating the viewer as unexpected shadow projections emerge. A state unfolds that continues in the very act of observing.

SHADOW\LIGHT conveys an image free of pathos: a process that creates waves, reflects, responds, and yet remains held within a protected framework. Not a monument, but a sensitive equilibrium of structure and movement.
