The installation BODY of LIGHT is a feature of the exhibition PRISM BODIES – diversity of human representation in the arts.
The dematerialised body, a female torso, appears to dissolve in the light. The starting point is a shop mannequin, from which the torso was moulded. However, through the dichroic film, this figure loses its solid materiality and becomes a prismatic, mutable body: the BODY of LIGHT captures every ray of light and transforms it.
The exhibition PRISM BODIES conceives of the body as a prism: a medium through which identities, experiences and social attributions are refracted and split into many different facets. The exhibition is dedicated to the diversity of bodies – in terms of gender, origin, age, ability, form and self-perception – and explores how these are made visible in various artistic media. The exhibition is curated by Michael Kaufmann.
